McMINNVILLE, Ore. - With their
top player sidelined due to illness and another player absent while
participating in a friend's wedding, the short-handed George
Fox University Bruins were no match for the Linfield College
Wildcats, who cruised to a 9-0 Northwest Conference women's
tennis win Saturday here at the Linfield indoor courts.
Linfield's Sarah Click and Abby Olbrich downed George
Fox's Alyssa Emoto and Shaina Inn 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, and
Sophie Larson and Caroline Brigham dropped Cara
Griffith and Bethany Nguyen 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
The Bruins defaulted the No. 3 doubles.
In singles, it was the Wildcats' Olbrich over the
Bruins' Emoto 6-1, 6-4 in a tougher No. 1 match than
expected; Emoto actually held a 3-0 lead in the second set and had
a chance to go up 5-3 before Olbrich rallied. Lexi Thomas
topped Inn 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, Brigham beat Griffith 6-1, 6-2 at No.
3, and Sarah Watanabe defeated Nguyen 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4.
George Fox also defaulted the No. 5 and No. 6 matches.
