FOREST GROVE, Ore. –
Irene Johnson hit an NCAA Division III provisional
qualifying mark while winning the women's 100 meter hurdles,
one of four first-place finishes for the George Fox University
women and three for the Bruin men in the Pacific University Preview
track and field meet held here Saturday at Lincoln Park
Stadium.
Women
Johnson posted a time of 14.99 in the 100 hurdles to become the
first Bruin to hit an NCAA standard this spring. She was
joined in the winner's circle by teammates Emily Davison in
the long jump (17-01.25 / 5.21m), Marlee Zakrevsky in the hammer
(151-04 / 46.13m), and the 4x400 meter relay team of Alyssa Turner,
Beth Stam, Johnson, and Alexis Arnold (4:08.40).
Bruin second-place finishes were earned by Niki Stilwill in the
pole vault (9-00.25 / 2.75m), and Hana Fisher in the hammer (138-05
/ 42.20m). Thirds went to Frances Pavao in the high jump
(5-03.00 / 1.60m), Rachael Adkins n the triple jump (33-03.75 /
10.15m), Zakrevsky in the discus (110-06 / 33.69m), and the 4x100
meter relay team of Davison, Johnson, Jodi Van Gorkom, and Rachel
Meis (50.46). All were Northwest Conference qualifying
marks.
Other NWC marks that were not among the top three finishes
included Arnold (12.86) and Meis (13.42) in the 100 meter dash,
Melissa Leighty (16.40) in the 100 hurdles, Olivia Fleming
(1:10.25) in the 400 meter hurdles, Pavao (32-02.25 / 9.81m) in the
triple jump, and Morgan Shoup in the discus (99-08 / 30.37m) and
the hammer (107-00 / 32.62m).
Men
Bruin men who won events included Dakarai Kongela in the 100
meter dash (10.91), Kai Ojala in the high jump (6-02.75 / 1.90m),
and the 4x400 meter relay team of David Dillow, Ezekiel Smith,
Kongela, and Nate Dillow (3:22.95).
George Fox thirds were earned by Torrey Santiago in the 100
(11.21), Matt Romey in the 800 meter run (1:58.83), Nate Dillow
(15.82) and David Dillow (15.96) in the 110 meter hurdles (their
big brother and former GFU All-American Ben Dillow was second with
a 15.29), and Arick Morrell in the discus (132-04 / 40.35m) and the
hammer (139-04 / 42.48m). All the above marks but
Morrell's hammer throw were Northwest Conference
qualifiers.
Also posting NWC marks that were not in the top three was Casey
Taylor in the 100 (11.25) and the 200 meter dash (23.35).
The Pacific Preview continues Sunday with the completion of the
decathlon and the heptathlon, but George Fox did not have anyone
entered in the multi-events this weekend.
NEXT: The Bruins begin their annual spring
break trip to southern California Friday-Saturday, March 18-19,
with the California State University-Northridge Multi-Events for
their decathletes and heptathletes. The rest of the squads
will participate in the Point Loma Nazarene University Collegiate
Open on Saturday, March 19, with events slated to begin at 9:00
a.m.
