NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Surpassing the
automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA Division III National
Championships by over 100 points, David Dillow of
George Fox University came in second overall to his brother and
ex-Bruin star Ben (7,145 points to 6,701) in the California State
University-Northridge Men's Decathlon held here Thursday and
Friday.
Dillow easily topped the automatic mark of 6,600 points
necessary for the NCAAs, posting event wins in the long jump
(22-0.25 / 6.71m), the 400 meter dash (50.24), and the 1,500 meter
run (4:32.66). He also came in second in the discus (116-04 /
35.46) and the pole vault (13-11.25 / 4.25m), took third in the
javelin (155-04 / 47.35), and was fifth in the 100 meter dash
(11.43), the shot put (36-2.25 / 11.03m), and the 110 meter hurdles
(15.87). His marks in the long jump, 400, pole vault, 100,
and 110 hurdles were all Northwest Conference qualifiers.
On the George Fox all-time decathlon list, Dillow's 6,701
points rank fifth behind current Bruins head coach John Smith
(7,138, 1995), Ben Dillow (6,932, 2005), David Parker (6,800,
1998), and Seth Harris (6,743, 2006).
NEXT: George Fox will participate in the Point
Loma Nazarene University's Collegiate Open Meet Saturday in
San Diego, Calif. Events are scheduled to begin at 9:00
a.m.
