Collegiate Open Results (M&W)
SAN DIEGO, Calif. –
Irene Johnson improved her NCAA Division III
National Championships provisional qualifying mark in the 100 meter
hurdles and the George Fox University Bruins posted 27 Northwest
Conference qualifying marks during the Point Loma Nazarene
University Collegiate Open track and field meet held here on
Saturday.
Women
Johnson, who already had a provisional mark of 14.99 in the 100
hurdles, knocked 15/100ths of a second off her time with a 14.84
that was good enough to win the event. She also hit an NWC
mark with a 12.62 in the 100 meter dash, finishing third
overall.
The Bruin women had two other first-place finishers in the meet,
which featured numerous athletes from the NCAA Division II and NAIA
levels as well as members of Division III. Frances Pavao tied
with four others in the high jump at 5-1.75 / 1.57m, while Rachael
Adkins tied for the long jump title with a distance of 18-1.75 /
5.53m, both hitting NWC marks.
The Bruins dominated the long jump with five athletes in the top
nine, all qualifying for the NWC Championships. In addition
to Adkins, Emily Davison was third (17-11.75 / 5.48m), Angie Miller
fifth (16-10.50 / 5.14m), Jodi Van Gorkom eighth (16-3.75 / 4.97m),
and Esther Harder (16-2.5 / 4.94m).
George Fox had three NWC qualifiers in two events: Johnson,
Rachel Meis (13.32), and Van Gorkom (13.41) in the 100, and Adkins
(34-9.50 / 10.60m), Pavao (34-1.25 / 10.39m), and Davison (33-6.75
/ 10.23m) in the triple jump.
Other Bruin marks that made the NWC standards were by Meis in
the 200 meter dash (26.73), Niki Stilwill in the 100 hurdles
(17.17), Olivia Fleming (1:10.02) and Lizzy Alaimo (1:13.61) in the
400 meter hurdles, and Marlee Zakrevsky in the discus (114-03 /
34.82m).
Men
Top finishes for the Bruin men included seconds by Kai Ojala in
the high jump (6-6 / 1.98m) and Jon Udlock in the javelin (174-8 /
53.23m), and a third by Micah Strong in the 100 meter dash
(11.17). All were NWC qualifiers.
Other NWC marks were posted by Ezekiel Smith in the 400 meter
dash (51.47), Allen Cassel in the 5,000 meter run (15:45.16), Nate
Dillow in the 110 meter hurdles (15.58), Zach Pankratz (40-9 /
12.42m) and Ojala (40-9 / 12.42m) in the triple jump, and the 4x100
meter relay team of Casey Taylor, Dakarai Kongela, Torrey Santiago,
and Strong (46.23).
NEXT: George Fox will finish its spring break
trip to southern California with the Westmont College Invitational
in Santa Barbara on Friday-Saturday, March 25-26. Events are
scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. on
Saturday.
