ORLANDO, Fla. - Alyssa
Emoto picked up a win at No. 2 singles for George Fox
University but the rest of the day belonged to the No. 26-ranked
University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks as the Bruins dropped a
non-conference women's tennis match 8-1 Saturday morning here
at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.
The Warhawks cruised through the doubles as Kalla Schaefer and
Alexandra Bayliss blanked the Bruins' Molly Beaumont and Cara
Griffith 8-0 at No. 1, Amy Siemon and Annie Smith stopped Emoto and
Shaina Inn 8-2 at No. 2, and Sydney Divelbiss and Abby Martin
downed Liliya Abildayeva and Bethany Nguyen 8-1 at No. 3.
Emoto gave the Bruins their lone win of the match when she edged
Siemon 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8), battling back from an 8-4 deficit with
six straight points to win the third-set tiebreaker.
Whitewater took the rest of the singles as Schaefer beat Beaumont
6-1, 6-1 at No. 1; Smith topped Inn 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3; Divelbiss
dropped Griffith 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4; Kasten conquered Abildayeva
6-2, 6-1 at No. 5; and Lauren Aguilar knocked off Nguyen 6-0, 6-2
at No. 6.
NEXT: George Fox (3-7) takes on Hamline College
Sunday at 8:00 a.m., while Wisconsin-Whitewater plays Monday
against Grinnell College at 9:30 a.m. and St. Olaf College at 1:30
