SPOKANE, Wash. – With four athletes in
the top five spots of the women's heptathlon and the Dillow
brothers standing first and third in the men's decathlon, the
George Fox University Bruins are off to a strong start after the
first day of competition in the Northwest Conference Multi-Events
being held here at Whitworth University's Boppell Track.
Women
In the heptahlon, George Fox's Alexis
Arnold is first with 2,782 points, almost 300 points ahead
of Bruin teammate Beth Stam at 2,488. Brandi Miller of
Willamette University is third at 2,445 points, followed by Melissa
Leighty of George Fox at 2,331, and the Bruins' Alyssa Turner
at 2,247.
Arnold built her lead by winning the 100 meter hurdles (15.16)
and the 200 meter dash (26.57), and finishing second in the high
jump (4-10.5 / 1.49m) and the shot put (36-5.75 / 11.12m).
All were NWC qualifying marks as well.
Stam won the two events Arnold did not as she captured the high
jump (5-1 / 1.55m) and the shot put (37-2.5 / 11.34m) while placing
seventh in the 200 (27.69) and the 100 hurdles (17.54). Her
high jump, shot put, and hurdles marks met NWC standards.
Leighty finished third in the high jump (4-8.25 / 1.43m), fourth
in the 100 hurdles (16.32), and fifth in the shot put (28-7 /
8.71m) and the 200 (27.56). She hit NWC marks in the high
jump and the hurdles.
Turner was second in the 200 (26.83), third in the 100 hurdles
(15.96), and ninth in the high jump (4-3.5 / 1.31m) and the shot
put (25-5.25 / 7.75m). Her track events were NWC
qualifiers.
Men
In the decathlon, David Dillow holds a slim lead over
Willamette's Evin Colignon, 3,433 points to 3,424. Nate
Dillow is next with 3,181.
David Dillow captured the 100 meter dash (11.45), the long jump
(22-0.75 / 6.72m), and the high jump (5-10.5 / 1.79m), and placed
second in the shot put (38-3.25 / 11.66m) and fourth in the 400
meter dash (52.18). His first-place events are all NWC
qualifiers.
Nate Dillow came in third in the long jump (20-10 / 6.35m) and
the 400 (51.50), fourth in the 100 (11.52), and seventh in the shot
put (33-8.5 / 10.27m) and the high jump (5-5.75 / 1.67m). His
first two events earned NWC competing marks.
The NWC Multi-Events will conclude Tuesday, starting at 10:00
a.m. The heptathlon will include the long jump, javelin
throw, and 800 meter run, while the decathlon will feature the 110
meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1,500 meter
run. Point totals for finishes will count toward the
Northwest Conference Championships, which will be held
Friday-Saturday, April 22-23, at Linfield College's Maxwell
Field in McMinnville, Ore.
