FOREST GROVE, Ore. –
Combining for six first-place finishes and two NCAA Division III
National Championships provisional qualifying marks, the George Fox
University men's and women's track and field teams put
together a fine day of competition as the fourth annual Pacific
University Twilight Meet ended Saturday here at Lincoln Park
Stadium.
In the women's events, Irene Johnson captured the 100
meter hurdles with a time of 14.65, which was an NCAA provisional
mark, a new season's best for her, and the best mark in the
Northwest Conference this season. The Bruins' 4x100
meter relay team of Emily Davison, Johnson, Melissa Leighty, and
Alexis Arnold also won with a 48.35 time, another NCAA provisional
mark but just short of their school-record 48.22 in last
weekend's NWC Championships.
Also taking first-place honors for the Bruins were
Frances Pavao, who tied for first in the high jump
(5-1.75 / 1.57m), and Davison in the long jump (17-11.5 /
5.47m). Combined with Rachael Adkins' win in the triple
jump (35-3.25 / 10.75m) on Friday, the George Fox women won five
events over the two days.
George Fox seconds on Saturday were posted by Angie Miller in
the long jump (17-9 / 5.41m) and Johnson in the 100 meter dash
(12.51), while Alyssa Turner took third in the 400 meter hurdles
(1:04.44). Other top 10 finishers for the Bruins included
Niki Stilwill, who was fourth in the pole vault (10-0 / 3.05m);
Arnold, fifth in the 100 hurdles (15.66); Beth Stam, eighth in the
100 hurdles (16.83); and Rachel Meis, 10th in the 400 meter
dash.
For the George Fox men, Nate Dillow won the 110 meter hurdles
with a time of 15.27, and Dakarai Kongela took the 100 meter dash
in 10.98.
In a rare event in which the Bruins do not often compete, Kyle
Dreibelbis, Tyler Magill, Mike Calavan, and Allen Cassel finished
third in the 4x800 meter relay (8:11.46). Other top 10
finishes by the Bruins included Kai Ojala's fifth in the high
jump (6-2.75 / 1.90m), Casey Taylor's sixth in the 100
(11.23), and David Dillow's eighth in the 400 meter dash
(50.37).
