BEAVERTON, Ore. - Opening the
Northwest Conference portion of their 2012 women's tennis
season against Linfield College, last year's regular-season
runner-up and NWC Tournament champion, the George Fox University
Bruins were blanked 9-0 by the postseason-tested Wildcats Friday
afternoon here at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center's indoor
courts.
The match had been relocated from the GFU campus courts the day
before in anticipation of predicted rain, which did indeed begin to
fall in Newberg by mid-afternoon and would have prevented
completion of the contest.
The Wildcats swept through the doubles with Abby Olbrich and
Caroline Brigham downing the Bruins' Molly Beaumont and
Shaina Inn 8-1 at No. 1, twin sisters Kaila and Kiana Nip knocking
off Alyssa Emoto and Cara Griffith 8-3 at No. 2, and Lexi Thomas
and Erin Crofcheck taking down Chantelle Hadeed and Marissa Chau
8-1 at No. 3.
In singles, Olbrich, who is ranked No. 4 in the West Region,
defeated Beaumont 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1; Brigham, ranked No. 23 in the
region, swept Emoto 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2; Thomas downed Inn 6-1, 6-3
at No. 3; Kaila Nip clipped Griffith 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4; Kiana Nip
blanked Hadeed 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5; and Kelly Watanabe dropped
Alissandra Wittrig 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.

fourth of five straight home matches next Friday when the Bruins
