Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. –
Southpaw Chad Fahey (2-1) threw a six-hit shutout and got just
enough run support to give the Pacific University Boxers a 3-0
victory and a 2-1 Northwest Conference baseball series win over the
George Fox University Bruins Sunday afternoon here at Bond Field in
a game that was three hours late starting due to rain.
Fahey struck out six and walked only one in the route-going
performance, and got help from his defense as the Boxers turned
four double plays, including a game-ending 6-3 twin killing on a
line drive by Nick Benish to shortstop Jared Van Hoon.
Another one, a 6-4-3 turn in the 3rd, got the Boxers' lefty
out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam.
George Fox rookie right-hander Tom Zarosinski
(1-3) matched goose eggs with Fahey through three innings before
being victimized by an error in the 4th. With one out, Logan
Moen hit a sharp grounder to Derek Blankenship at third, who
skipped his throw past Danny Clifford at first and down toward the
right-field corner. Moen wound up at third and score an
unearned run on Nate Rasmussen's single to center.
The Boxers added two insurance runs in the 7th. Kevin
Schwartz singled with one out and Nick Tasaka doubled to
right-center to drive him in. A single by Van Hoon off
reliever Taylor Hill scored Schwartz.
Zarosinski finished with six hits allowed, eight strikeouts and
three walks before Hill and Eric Kittelson, who threw two innings
of one-hit shutout relief, finished up. Tasaka had three of the
Boxers' nine hits off the Bruins, the only player in the game
with multiple hits.
