BEAVERTON, Ore. –
Playing their fifth “home-away-from-home” match out of
six home matches thus far this season here at the Tualatin Hills
Tennis Center's indoor courts due to the wet weather, the
George Fox University Bruins dropped a 6-3 Northwest Conference
women's tennis match to the visiting Lewis & Clark
College Pioneers.
The Bruins got off to a good start in the opening doubles as
Molly Beaumont and Shaina Inn knocked off the
Pioneers' Jill Coleman and Olivia Sweetman 8-1 at No. 1, but
Lewis & Clark bounced back to take the other two doubles.
Lisa Ospeyan and Gillian Lowe blanked Alyssa Emoto and Marissa Chau
8-0 at No. 2, and Makena McCluskey and Theresa Grigsby doubled up
Cara Griffith and Chantelle Hadeed 8-4 at No. 3.
Beaumont and Griffith picked up the Bruins' singles wins
at No. 1 and No. 4 respectively. Beaumont cruised by Coleman
6-0, 6-1, and Griffith split with Sweetman before winning 2-6, 6-2,
6-3. The Pios picked up the rest of the singles, though, as
Ospeyan did in Inn 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2; Lowe let down Emoto 6-3, 6-4
at No. 3; Justine Minette prevailed over Hadeed 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 at
No. 5; and Elise Alway edged Alissandra Wittrig 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 at
No. 6.
It was the first win of the season for Lewis & Clark, which
is now 1-7 overall and 1-6 in the conference, while George Fox
slipped to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in league play.
