BEAVERTON, Ore. - Bolstered by
the solid play of the bottom part of their lineup, the visiting
University of Puget Sound Loggers pulled out a 6-3 win over the
George Fox University Bruins in a Northwest Conference
women's tennis match that was moved from the GFU campus
courts here to the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center's indoor
courts Friday afternoon.
George Fox's three wins all came from the upper portion of
the Bruins' lineup. Molly Beaumont and
Shaina Inn teamed up to sweep the Loggers' Josephine Dow and
Allison Embernate 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, Beaumont defeated Maddison
Holtz 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Inn topped Maddie Thiesse 6-1,
6-2 at No. 3 singles. Alyssa Emoto almost gave the Bruins
another win at No. 2 singles as she dropped a close one to Jenna
Gerdsen 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
The Loggers pulled out the other two doubles matches as Logan
Thompson and Marissa Friedman downed Emoto and Cara Griffith 8-2 at
No. 2, and Ada Yu and Thiesse edged Chantelle Hadeed and Marissa
Chau 8-5 at No. 3. Puget Sound secured the win by cruising
through the final three singles. Thompson topped Griffith
6-2, 6-2 at No. 4, Friedman handled Hadeed 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5, and
Dow dropped Bethany Nguyen 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
NEXT: George Fox (1-3, NWC 0-2) hosts Pacific
Lutheran University Saturday morning in another match that has been
moved from the campus to Tualatin Hills due to a forecast of
rain. The match will start at 8:00 a.m. instead of the
scheduled 11:00 a.m. due to the availability of courts only at that
time ... Puget Sound (2-4, NWC 2-3) visits Lewis & Clark
College Saturday for an 11:00 a.m. match.
