ORLANDO, Fla. - Posting their
third consecutive victory on their five-match Spring Break Trip to
central Florida, the George Fox University Bruins won all but the
last two singles in rolling over the Calvin College Knights 7-2 in
a non-conference women's tennis match Friday morning here at
the Star Island Resort's tennis courts.
After defeating Elmhurst University and Hamline College on
Thursday in matches in which the singles were played first, the
Bruins and Knights returned to the more familiar format of doubles
first, with the Bruins taking all three to get off to a good
start. Molly Beaumont and Shaina Inn were victorious over
Megan Visser and Samantha Reitsma 8-3 at No. 1, Alyssa
Emoto and Cara Griffith edged Elise Doezema and Bethany
Zoerhof 9-7 at No. 2, and Marissa Chau and Bethany Nguyen stopped
Lauren Schlagenhauf and Jordan Ipema 8-3 at No. 3.
The Bruins sewed things up by taking the top four singles.
Beaumont beat Visser 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1; Emoto topped Schlagenhauf
6-1, 6-3 at No. 2; Inn ousted Ipema 6-0, 7-5 at No. 3; and Griffith
garnered a 6-3, 6-2 win over Reitsma at No. 4.
Calvin closed out the match with wins in the last two
singles. Zoerhof dropped Chantelle Hadeed 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5,
and Ali Roode won over Alissandra Wittrig 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.
NEXT: George Fox (5-7) is off until Sunday,
when the Bruins will take on the Whittier College Poets at 10:00
a.m. Eastern time (7:00 a.m. Pacific) at the Sanlando Park courts
... Calvin (2-8) begins Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic
Association action Saturday, Mar. 31, with a 1:00 p.m. Eastern time
match at Kalamazoo College.
