Box Score KEIZER, Ore. – After trying twice earlier
in the season to play, the George Fox University Bruins and the
Corban University Warriors finally got their non-conference
baseball game in Tuesday evening here at Volcanoes Stadium, with
the Bruins' offensive woes continuing in a 7-1 rain-soaked
setback at the hands of the Warriors.
Corban jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st against George Fox
tarter Taylor Hill (2-3),the first of seven Bruin pitchers.
Jordan Johansen reached on a slow roller to third and Kyle Kunkel
was safe when Hill stumbled fielding his sacrifice bunt.
Colby Sokol dumped an RBI single down the left-field line, and
after Cody Atkinson bunted for a hit to load the bases, Steven Blum
delivered a two-run single.
After going scoreless for two innings against Corban's
Justin White (7-3), the Bruins got their only run in the 3rd
against Jacob Kopra. Danny Clifford stroked a one-out single
to center, stole second and kept going to third on a passed ball on
the same pitch, and scored on a Nick Benish single to left.
Rain began to fall in the last of the 3rd and remained steady
for a couple of innings, though never hard enough to stop the
game. The precipitation lightened up considerably in the 6th
and the game went on.
Corban added two more in the 5th off Eric Kittelson. Blum
doubled to left with two out, advanced on a wild pitch, and after
Lance Foster walked, scored on a double steal with pinch runner
Andy Hill. In the 7th, Blum drilled his third double of the
game to right, moved up on a balk by Bobby Orozco, and after former
Bruin Peter Martin drew a walk, scored on Tyler Atkinson's
single up the middle off the glove of shortstop Zach
Hegelmeyer. Alex Bost followed with a double to left-center
to score Martin for the final run of the game.
Clifford and Todd Nagamine had two hits apiece for the Bruins,
who had eight hits in all and have now scored just one run in four
of their last five games. Blum had a 4-for-4 game and Sokol
had a pair of hits for the Warriors, who had 13 base knocks in
all.
