PARKLAND, Wash. - Coming off a 4-1 record on
last week's spring break trip to Orlando, Fla., the George
Fox University Bruins kept rolling for their fifth win in the last
six matches, this one an 8-1 win over the Pacific Lutheran
University Lutes in Northwest Conference women's tennis
action Friday evening here at the Sprinker Tennis Center.
The Bruins opened by taking the top two doubles matches.
Molly Beaumont and Shaina Inn knocked off Leah
Newell and Tina Aarsvold 8-3 at No. 1, and Alyssa Emoto and Cara
Griffith edged Cora Wigen and Valery Jorgensen 8-6 at No. 2.
PLU picked up its only win at No. 3 as Allison McClure and
Catherine Miolla squeezed past Marissa Chau and Bethany Nguyen
8-6.
George Fox captured all six singles, all but one in straight
sets. Beaumont beat Newell 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1; Emoto nipped
Wigen 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 2; Inn topped Aarsvold 6-2, 6-2 at No.
3; Griffith managed McClure 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4; Chantelle Hadeed
handled Miolla 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5; and Alissandra Wittrig wriggled
past Jorgensen 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).
Now 7-8 overall and 2-6 in the conference, the Bruins have their
third-most wins in a season since bringing women's tennis
back to the campus in 1996. The 2004 team went 9-12 and the
2002 team was 8-9.
NEXT: George Fox goes to the University of
Puget Sound Saturday for an 11:00 a.m. match before closing out the
regular season with three home conference contests next week ...
