Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – In a
battle of five-hitters, the University of Puget Sound's Lucas
Stone out-dueled George Fox University's Tom
Zarosinski and the visiting Loggers beat the Bruins 2-1 to
capture the Northwest Conference baseball series two games to one
Saturday afternoon here at Concordia University's Hilken
Community Stadium.
The Bruins got on the board in the bottom of the 1st when David
Greenstein walked, was sacrificed to second by Taylor Hunter, went
to third on a ground out by Josh Rapacz, and scored on Danny
Clifford's single up the middle. After that, Stone
(1-5) was in complete control, allowing only four more hits,
striking out two, and retiring the last 12 hitters in a row.
Zarosinski (1-5) was equally impressive in his best start of the
year, spacing five hits with a season-high nine strikeouts and two
walks. He faltered only in the 3rd when he hit Connor Savage
with a bounced pitch with two out and the Loggers took
advantage. Jake Boley singled to right and took second on the
throw to third as Savage advanced, and Will Mentor delivered them
both with a ground single up the middle.
Rapacz was the only Bruin with two hits, while Mentor and Casey
Coberly had two safeties each for the Loggers.
