Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Getting goals from
both far and near, once from 25 yards away and again from right in
front of the goal on a rebound, the Pacific University Boxers
knocked off the visiting George Fox University Bruins 2-0 in a
Northwest Conference men's soccer match Sunday afternoon here
at Lincoln Park Stadium.
The Bruins started the game with several good offensive looks
but could not convert. Luke Hammer had a header from five
yards out in the fifth minute, but the flick flew right into the
waiting hands of Pacific goalie Michael Summers.
Sawyer Meek also had a good chance in the 13th
minute, breaking away on the near side, but his shot from 15 yards
out flew wide of the net.
Garrick Knowles capitalized on the early George Fox misses to
put the Boxers on the board in the 34th minute. Taking a free
kick attempt from the far side of the pitch, he roped a shot
through a set of defenders into the near corner of the net for his
second goal of the year.
Jorge Manduano gave the Boxers an insurance goal in the 70th
minute. Mason Nakama hooked a ball into the central area of
the box, where Quinton Love had the first attempt at the net, with
his shot going off the far post. Manduano was in the right
spot to rebound the carom into the far corner for his second goal
of the season.
Pacific outshot the Bruins 19-10 while maintaining a 6-4 advantage
in shots on goal, but corner kicks were even at 3-3. Summers
had four saves in earning the shutout for the Boxers, while George
Fox goalie Ricardo Sotelo made six saves before leaving in the 83rd
minute with an injury. Luke Ridder minded the net for the
final seven minutes.
