Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. – Held to only 10 shots all
game and just four on goal by the George Fox University defense,
the Pacific University Boxers made the most of their chances to
score three first-half goals and take a 3-1 victory over the Bruins
in the Northwest Conference men's soccer finale for both
teams Saturday afternoon here at the Austin Sports Complex.
Quintin Love gave the Boxers a 1-0 lead at 16:53 when he took a
corner kick from the left by Nick Pinto and chested it into the
goal for his second score of the year. Pinto got a goal of
his own, his first, when he captured a through ball from Steen
Shober and sent it into the far right corner of the net at
20:41. The Boxers added a third goal in the period when
Nicolas Kaminsky blasted a strong right cross into the middle for
Nick Rudella, who put his fourth score of the year into the left
corner at the 42:39 mark.
The Bruins, who out-shot the Boxers 19-10 overall, 8-4 in shots
on target, and 7-2 in corner kicks, got their only score at 53:40
in the second half. Miguel Lopez Ixta powered a corner kick
from the right side toward the far post, and a streaking Erik
Davies went high to head it inside the post for his first goal of
the season. The Bruins had five more shots at scoring in the
second half, three of them by Luke Hammer, but were unable to
finish any of them.
Michael Summers made two saves in the net in the first half to
earn the win for Pacific, while Zach Cohen had five in the second
half. Bruin starting keeper Ricardo Sotelo was the victim of
the Boxers' first-half efficiency and had no saves, and Luke
Ridder in the second half had one save.
The game was tightly called, with 20 fouls whistled on the
Boxers and 13 on the Bruins. George Fox also drew two yellow
cards and one red.
Six graduating seniors were honored in pre-game ceremonies for
their Bruin careers - Luke Andrew, Steven Haga, Sawyer Meek,
Christian Reed, Nick Schoen, and Brandon Zebarth.
George Fox finished with a 1-19 overall record and finished
ninth in the conference at 0-14. Pacific concluded the
campaign at 7-12-1 and came in eighth in the league at 2-11-1.
