Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – Concordia
University-Portland's ace left-hander Jon Yearout and two
relievers combined to hold George Fox University to one hit while
their offense collected 14 hits off five Bruin hurlers, giving the
Cavaliers a runaway 13-0 victory in the Cascade/Northwest
Conference Baseball Challenge Saturday evening here at Porter
Park.
Yearout went seven innings, holding the Bruins hitless until
Zach Hegelmeyer lined a clean single to left with one out in the
seventh. He struck out 10, walked two, and hit four.
Blake Evetts worked a 1-2-3 eighth and Christian Bannister fanned
two and walked one in the ninth to close it.
Concordia broke on top in the third inning against George Fox
righty Tom Zarosinski (1-2) as Blake Drake and
Cole Shidaki hit back-to-back doubles. In the fourth, two
walks and a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt scored Ryne Briley,
and Jordan Keeker singled in two more. Jared Young and Briley
hit back-to-back doubles and Jimmy Sanchez singled in Briley in the
sixth.
The Cavaliers turned the game into a blowout with seven runs in
the eighth off a pair of Bruin relievers. Shidaki, Young, and
C.J. Watson hit RBI singles, Brannon Mossholder lined a two-run
single, Sanchez tripled in a run, and Drake singled in the final
run of the frame.
Zarosinski went five innings, allowing seven hits and six runs,
three earned, while striking out nine and walking four.
Spencer Eager and Michael Hirko worked one scoreless inning each
before Kyle Kirwan and Kyle Albertson finished up.
Drake had three hits to pace the Concordia attack, while
Shidaki, Young, and Sanchez had two safeties apiece.
NEXT: George Fox (6-4) finishes the
tournament Sunday at home against Pacific University at 2:00
p.m. Though both are in the Northwest Conference, the game
does not count in the conference standings … Concordia (6-6)
wraps up its tournament schedule by hosting Pacific Lutheran
University at 1:00 p.m. and the University of Puget Sound at 4:00
p.m. Sunday.
