McMINNVILLE, Ore. – With both teams
seeking their first win of the 2013 women's tennis season, it
was the host Linfield College Wildcats who prevailed in five of six
singles matches to secure a 7-2 win over their Yamhill County
rivals, the George Fox University Bruins, in a Northwest Conference
contest Saturday afternoon here at the Rutschman Field House.
George Fox got off to a good start by taking the No. 1 doubles
match as Molly Beaumont and Shaina Inn doubled up
Linfield's Gretchen Jernstedt and Lexi Thomas 8-4, but the
Wildcats bounced back to take the other two doubles, also by 8-4
scores. Caroline Brigham and Kwynn Ecton topped Alyssa Emoto
and Krista Rey at No. 2, and Kaila Nip and Kelly Watanabe downed
Chantelle Hadeed and Ali Diehl at No. 3.
The Wildcats secured the win by taking the top three
singles. Thomas beat Beaumont 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1, Brigham
topped Emoto 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2, and Nip knocked Inn out 6-1, 6-1 at
No. 3, giving Linfield a 5-1 advantage and the overall
match.
Hadeed picked up the Bruins' lone singles win at No. 4 as
she prevailed over Ecton 6-3, 7-5, but the home team took the final
two singles, with Watanabe over Rey 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Jernstedt
over Alissandra Wittrig 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.

of four straight home matches Friday against Willamette University
at 3:30 p.m. … Linfield (1-4, NWC 1-2) hosts Whitworth
