PORTLAND, Ore. – Sporting a lineup with
three singles players and one doubles team ranked in the NCAA
Division III West Region, the Lewis & Clark College Pioneers
lost only one set in dispatching the George Fox University Bruins
9-0 in Northwest Conference women's tennis action Sunday
afternoon here at the Lewis & Clark Tennis Bubble.
The Pioneers opened the match with Aurora Garrison and Gillian
Lowe whitewashing the Bruins' Molly Beaumont and Shaina Inn,
who are ranked No. 11 in the West, 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Olivia Cornell and Claudia Lew defeated Alyssa Emoto and Krista Rey
8-2 at No. 2, and Lisa Ospeyan and Isabelle Borris, who are ranked
No. 12 in the region, downed Chantelle Hadeed and Ali Diehl 8-2 at
No. 3.
The Bruins' only set win in singles came at No. 5, where
Rey took a set from Ospeyan, who is No. 24 in the West, before
falling 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-1). The rest of the Pios'
wins were in straight sets as Garrison (No. 21 in the West) knocked
off Beaumont 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1; Cornell (No. 11 in the region)
downed Emoto 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2; Lew ousted Inn 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3;
Lowe topped Hadeed 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4; and Borris beat Wittrig 6-3,
6-1 at No. 6.
George Fox fell to 3-6 overall with the setback and to 2-5 in
the conference, while Lewis & Clark stayed a game behind
front-running Whitman College by improving to 6-2 overall and 6-1
in league play.
