NEWBERG, Ore. – Winning close encounters
at the first and third doubles matches, the George Fox University
Bruins swept all three doubles and used that strong start to finish
off a 7-2 win over the visiting Pacific University Boxers in
Northwest Conference women's tennis action Saturday afternoon
here at the GFU campus courts.
It was the second straight win for the Bruins, who are now 2-4
overall and 2-3 in the conference. Pacific dropped to 0-6
overall and in the NWC.
At No. 2, the Bruins took a relatively comfortable 8-4 win as
Alyssa Emoto and Krista Rey teamed up to topple the Boxers'
Lillian Do and Becky Sheller. The other two matches went down
to the wire, with Molly Beaumont and Shaina Inn shaving Synclaire
Waldron and Rachel Mizuno 9-7 at No. 1, and Chantelle Hadeed and
Ali Diehl edging Amber Craviotto and Kelsey Lack 9-7 at No. 3.
At No. 1 singles, Beaumont picked up a victory over Waldron,
after taking a 1-0 lead, when the Boxers' top player was
forced to withdraw due to an injury. Emoto and Mizuno split
sets at No. 2 before the Bruins' player secured the win with
a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 decision. The Bruins also captured the No. 5
match as Rey downed Craviotto 7-5, 6-1, and the No. 6 singles as
