BEAVERTON, Ore. – Despite making three of
the singles matches quite close, the George Fox University Bruins
could not quite close the deal on any of them and wound up being
shut out 9-0 by the Lewis & Clark College Pioneers in a
Northwest Conference women's tennis match Saturday night here at
the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
The Pioneers, who are ranked No. 8 in the NCAA Division III West
Region, had relatively little trouble with the Bruins, who are No.
16 in the West, in the doubles. At No. 1, Aurora Garrison and
Gillian Lowe prevailed over Molly Beaumont
and Shaina Inn 8-2, as
did Olivia Cornell and Claudia Lew by the same score over Alyssa Emoto and Krista Rey at No. 2. It
was Lisa Ospeyan and Isabelle Borris over Ali Diehl and Megan Dahlberg 8-3 at No.
3.
The Bruins proved much more competitive in the singles,
particularly at Nos. 1, 2, and 5. At No. 1, Lew and Beaumont
split sets before Lew won a nail-biting tiebreaker, the final score
6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9). At No. 2, Lowe edged Emoto 6-1, 7-6
(7-5), while the No. 5 match also went to a tiebreaker, Olivia
Sweetman nipping Rey 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).

sets. Osepyan defeated Chantelle Hadeed 6-3, 6-1
