Box Score KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Down 2-0 to the
Oregon Institute of Technology a little over ten minutes into the
game, the George Fox University Bruins battled back to tie it in
the second half before the Owls scored with less than four minutes
left for a 3-2 non-conference men's soccer victory Saturday
afternoon here at Trevor Derrah Field.
The Owls struck quickly, getting their first goal three minutes
into the game. Jimmie Hernandez sent a long through ball to
the middle of the keeper's box, where Dustin Johnson struck
from 10 yards out for his second goal of the season. Tech
upped its lead to 2-0 at 10:30 when Hernandez sent another long
ball from midfield to Ashton Betts, who beat a final Bruin defender
and scored with a high shot just under the crossbar. It was
Betts' first goal of the year.
George Fox cut the lead in half at the 26:35 mark when
Brandon Zebarth scored his second goal of the
season on a penalty kick. The Bruins got the equalizer at
65:04 in the second half as Luke Dickens scored from five yards
away inside the near right post following a Tech deflection, his
second goal of the season.
Having come all the way back, the Bruins were stunned when Brady
Ulen wove his way inside the defense and scored on the run from
three yards away inside the left post at the 86:38 mark. It
was his first goal of the season.
The Bruins controlled the offensive flow of the game but were
unable to capitalize on almost twice as many opportunities as the
Owls. George Fox out-shot Tech 21-9 overall and 11-6 in shots
on goal, and held a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks.
Ricardo Sotelo and Luke Ridder again split time in goal for the
Bruins, Ridder making three saves in the second half but taking the
loss. Loren Jessen made seven saves for the Owls in getting
the win.
