Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. --- Nicholas Schoen, Steven Stone and Chris Stanfield all recorded career-highs Wednesday night, as the Bruins fell to Portland Bible College, 83-81.
Jonny Howard led all scorers going 10-for-18 from the floor and 4-for-9 from beyond the arc for a total of 26 points. Stone went a perfect 5-for-5 from the field with 13 points, while Stanfield recorded 11. Schoen finished his night with eight points with four steals and two assists.
The Bruins started their night with a quick 9-0 lead, but the Wildcats battled back and cut the lead to one, 23-22, at the 9:18 mark. The Wildcats took their first lead of the game a minute later after Mozeek Waggener made a pair of free throws. Waggener finished the game with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
George Fox went into the half with a two point lead, 43-41.
Both teams were red hot from the field shooting over a 50 percent clip, as the lead changed hands eight times and the score was tied five times.
Coming out of the break, the Bruins continued their strong play holding their lead for the next eight minutes. The Wildcats made it interesting at the 12:35 mark re-taking the lead, 61-60, but the Bruins responded and forced the sixth tie of the game after Stone made a free throw.
The seventh tie came at the 8:26 mark when Stanfield made a layup, 69-69. The Bruins played the next five minutes holding onto the lead until the eighth tie came with three minutes left in the contest, 77-77.
Andrew Smith drew a foul and got to the line with just over a minute to play making his second to tie the game up, 80-80. The Wildcats didn't waste any time on the next possession down scoring off a jumper from Johnathan Hanberg to take a two point lead, 82-80.
The Bruins would have a couple of good looks at the end of the game to ignite the crowd, but fell just two points shy to PBC.
George Fox out-scored the Wildcats 21-5 in the second half from bench points.
The Wildcats finished their night shooting 58.5 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc. The Bruins forced 24 turnovers and recorded a team high 22 steals.
Tonight marked Mike "Biggs" Wirta 799 consecutive men's basketball game. The last home game that "Biggs" has missed dates back to 1972 when he was in military service. He will hit the 800 mark on Friday, December 12 when the Bruins take on Seattle Pacific on the road at 7:00 p.m.
