TACOMA, Wash. – A stirring three-set win
by Megan Dahlberg at No. 5 singles prevented the
George Fox University Bruins from being shut out but not from
dropping an 8-1 decision to the University of Puget Sound Loggers
in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match Friday here at
the UPS Tennis Pavilion.
Dahlberg improved to 4-2, the best singles record on the team,
with a 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory over the Loggers' Sarah
Nielsen. The rest of the day belonged to the home team,
however, as UPS climbed to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play,
while George Fox slipped to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the NWC.
In sweeping the doubles matches, the Loggers got wins by Logan
Thompson and Jenna Gerdsen 8-5 over the Bruins' Alyssa Emoto
and Chantelle Hadeed at No. 1, by Malia Ford and Elizabeth Chao 8-4
over Taylor Barnes and Krista Rey at No. 2, and by Allison
Embernate and Nielsen 8-3 over Dahlberg and Ali Diehl at No. 3.
In singles, Puget Sound's wins came from Thompson over
Emoto 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1; Gerdsen over Hadeed 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2;
Chao over Barnes 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3; Ford over Rey 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) at
No. 4; and Embernate over Diehl 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6.
