BEAVERTON, Ore. – Stepping outside the
Northwest Conference for a day, the George Fox University Bruins
evened their season record at 4-4 by capturing all six singles
matches to sprint past the College of Idaho Lady 'Yotes in
women's tennis action Sunday here at the Tualatin Hills
Tennis Center's indoor facilities.
The teams split the first two doubles matches that finished, the
Bruins' Megan Dahlberg and Ali
Diehl running their record to 6-2 with an 8-2 win over
Cassie Low and Emilee Chapman at No. 3, but Shae Stults and Tanya
Greenwood gave the Idahoans an 8-3 win at No. 2 over Alyssa Emoto
and Krista Rey. In a down-to-the-wire battle at No. 1, the
College of Idaho took a 2-1 lead when Emily Tesnohlidek and Allie
Boyd edged Chantelle Hadeed and Taylor Barnes 9-7.
The Bruins responded by taking five of the six singles matches
in straight sets. Only at No. 3 did the match go to a third
set, and Barnes left no doubt as to the outcome in the deciding set
as she downed Boyd 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 6-0.
In the remaining singles, it was Emoto over Stults 6-3, 6-0 at
No. 1; Hadeed over Tesnohlidek 7-5, 7-5 at No. 2; Rey over
Greenwood 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4; Dahlberg over Low 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5;
and Diehl over Vanessa Almarez 6-0, 7-5 at No. 6
The Bruins snapped a four-game losing streak with the victory
while dropping the 'Yotes to 1-6 on the season.
