Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Kaylee
Kolin made 18 saves in the net and Jessica Adrian scored
four goals, but George Fox University was unable to overcome a
3-to-1 advantage in shots taken by the Pacific University Boxers,
who used that to manufacture a 12-9 win over the visiting Bruins in
women's lacrosse Wednesday evening here at Lincoln Park
Stadium.
The Bruins fell to 3-6 on the season while the Boxers improved
to 7-7. Pacific thus swept the season series from the
first-year George Fox team, having won their first meeting on Mar.
3 in Newberg 11-9 in overtime.
George Fox took an early lead on goals by Adrian and Alexa
Nakashimada before Pacific got on the board with one by April
Lanz. Adrian scored an up-goal to give the Bruins a 3-1 lead
at the 19:24 mark, but the Boxers answered with five straight
scores, the last two by Kacey Killingbeck, to go up 6-3 with 6:42
left. After the Bruins' Christine Doherty and the
Boxers' Lanz traded goals, the visitors cut the margin to 7-6
at the half with goals by Adrian and Miranda Edwords, the last with
only 1:21 left in the period.
Adrian tied it for the Bruins with a goal 55 seconds into the
second half, but the Boxers took control by scoring the next four
goals, with two apiece by Melanie Niehus and Amy Mayhugh, for an
insurmountable 11-7 lead with 9:37 to play. The Bruins
rallied behind goals by Rachel Gibbs and Nakashimada to cut the gap
to 11-9 with 6:33 left, but could get no closer.
Pacific out-shot George Fox 38-13, including 30-11 in shots on
goal, with Kolin posting her second-highest saves total of the
season to keep the Bruins in the game. Her best also came
against the Boxers in their first encounter when she stopped 20
shots. Pacific goalie Adrienne Salzwedel had to make only two
saves to earn the victory.
Adrian tied her career high for goals, which she also achieved
in the previous meeting with Pacific, while Nakashimada scored
twice. Mayhugh and Lanz had three goals each for the Boxers,
with Niehus and Killingbeck each scoring a pair.
