Box Score WILSONVILLE, Ore. --- It was an amazing finish Thursday night under the lights, as the George Fox baseball team had everyone at the edge of their seats for a tough 9-8 loss to Corban University.
The Warriors just snuck by the Bruins watching their 9-2 lead diminish to 9-8 after the Bruins scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth.
It wasn't the start the Bruins were looking for after the Warriors scored three in the first, one in the second, two in the fifth and three in the sixth. The Bruins finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth after a two-out wild pitch brought in Kadyn Nannini, 9-1.
A scoreless seventh inning left the Bruins with a huge hole to climb out of, but another run was added on in the eighth when Jacob Woehler hit a single through the right hand side. He then advanced to second on a balk and moved to third after a wild pitch. Blake Christopher stepped up to the plate and hit an RBI groundout to get the Bruins just a bit closer.
The ninth inning would be one for the ages, as the Bruins loaded the bases and Zach Rapacz hit a sac-fly to score one of his teammates. Woehler came through in the clutch again hitting a double to score two more Bruins. The Bruins then drew two more walks to load the bases and Riley McKean stepped up to the plate and delivered a beaut hitting a triple to right field to record three RBIs, 9-8.
The Bruins had a chance to take the lead after drawing two more walks, but a strikeout would seal the deal, and George Fox would fall just one run shy of sending the game into extra innings.
George Fox will play next at Concordia-Portland on the 15th at 2:00 p.m.
