WALLA WALLA, Wash. --- George Fox University's women's tennis team kicked off its two game Northwest Conference road trip against Whitman College, Saturday afternoon.
The action took place on two different courts, as doubles were played at the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center and singles went outdoors to be played under the noontime sun.
The Bruins played well, but had a tough time keeping the Missionaries contained falling, 9-0.
"Once again, all of our doubles teams really competed well against Whitman," said head coach Rick Cruz. "Once we learn to finish points we will be capable of beating anyone."
In doubles, Sarah Tuemmler and Chantell Hadeed kicked off the day batting to an 8-2 defeat to Courtney and Morgan Lawless.
"Chantelle and Sarah played their best doubles of the early season and showed that they can compete with the best," said Cruz.
The Bruins hung in tough with the Missionaries in singles, but were unable to make a dent as Whitman completed the shutout.
"I am proud of the way the women competed today," added Cruz. "Hopefully we can bring out best tomorrow against Whitworth."
The Bruins will finish up the road trip taking on Whitworth on Sunday, February 22 at 10:00 a.m.
