SAN ANTONIO, Texas ---An impressive 2-4 performance from right fielder Zach Rapacz and a generally solid ensemble showing from the bullpen were not quite enough on Sunday afternoon, as the George Fox Bruins collected their second loss of the season to the Concordia Tornadoes, 6-4.
Head Coach Marty Hunter made use of his pitching staff, as he employed eight pitchers over eight innings after starter Michael Hirko went just two, despite surrendering only a single hit. The Bruins grabbed an early lead with a two-run third inning, but reliever Dustin Wells, who spelled Hirko, coughed up three runs in his one inning of work. The Bruins scratched out two more in the fifth on Andrew Reichenbach's homer to take a 4-3 lead, but in the bottom of the sixth Concordia banged out three runs off of Bruins relievers Nick Auld and Mason Dunning.
Concordia then went to their bullpen, bringing in reliever Dillon Stavinoha, who worked four excellent innings of relief, closing out the game with just two hits against him.
Michael Evan was the only Tornadoes player with two hits, one of which was a triple.
For the Bruins, Brandon Wileman and Clay Mott both collected two hits, and Rapacz's 2-4 performance included a double and an RBI.
The Bruins return from their Texas excursion with a 2-2 record. They return to Oregon to play Corban on Thursday afternoon.
