NEWBERG, Ore. --- Though Miranda Edwords has garnered most of the press this season, it was Alexa Nakashimada who dominated the field on Thursday afternoon, scoring a team-leading five goals in the Bruins' 18-5 shellacking of Augsburg. Nakashimada's five goals give her 29 on the season, just five behind Edwords, whose two goals on Thursday boost her season total to 34.
Mikaela Easterlin was her typical efficient self, firing in her three goals on just three shots. Katelyn Bradshaw, Marissa Wingett, and Ashlie Hernandez all added two goals apiece, and Jessica Adrian and Sydney Goo both chipped in one.
Bruins keeper Kaylee Kolin made five saves, though she was not troubled often.
The Bruins struck first just 90 seconds into the game, and fittingly it was Nakashimada who fired home from Easterlin's assist. Edwords and Adrian added two more in a matter of minutes before Augsburg finally beat Kolin to make the score 3-1. The rest of the first half belonged to George Fox. After Edwords slid in another, Nakashimada scored twice more, one on an excellently taken free position shot. Wingett and Easterlin traded off to score two apiece and make the score 10-1 before Augsburg broke the run of play and scored a quick goal.
Easterlin made a nice assist on Sydney Goo's goal and then scored one herself to close out the first half with the score 12-2.
The second half went about as well for Augsburg as did the first. Nakashimada scored twice in rapid succession to begin the half. Augsburg's Katie Luschwitz ripped in a fine shot to make the score 14-3, and Ashley Pettipiece scored soon after to give Augsburg a little momentum.
The Bruins struck back quickly with two more goals, including a technical free position shot from Bradshaw, before the clinical Luschwitz scored again to render the score 16-5. Bradshaw scored again after, and Hernandez slung one in to make the final score, 18-6.
The Bruins keep rolling with the victory, pushing their record to 8-1 on the season. They will look to continue their three-game winning streak next Thursday against Oberlin.
