TACOMA, Wash. --- Hat-tricks from both Miranda Edwords and Mikaela Easterlin were not quite enough for the Bruins on Sunday, as they came up empty on Sunday. Despite controlling play through the first period of the game, hosts Puget Sound mounted a rally and took the lead as halftime neared, a lead they nursed to a 10-7 win.
Besides Edwords and Easterlin, Alexa Nakashimada managed three assists, and Sydney Goo fired in the Bruins' other goal. Keeper Kaylee Kolin defended well, making 14 saves.
The Bruins began the game furiously. Just seven minutes into the game, George Fox enjoyed a 3-0 lead after two goals from Edwords and one from Easterlin, following a dominating run of play. Callie Holgate, though, slotted in Puget Sound's first goal with twelve minutes left in the first half, ushering in an excellent run for the Loggers. Another Puget Sound goal made the score 3-2, and after Edwords incredibly finished her hat trick with eight minutes remaining in the first, the Loggers rattled off four goals to carry a 6-4 lead into the halftime break.
After the break, to the Bruins' dismay, things remained largely the same. Olivia Keene and Caroline Cook turned a long spell of Logger possession into two more goals, the momentum broken only momentarily when Nakashimada picked out Easterlin with a precise pass; Easterlin finished clinically to pull one back for George Fox and make the score 8-5.
Keene scored again to extend the Loggers' lead to 9-5, but the Bruins had a flash of inspiration. Nakashimada found Easterlin again for one goal, and Sydney Goo converted a free position shot excellently to put the Bruins within striking range, 9-7.
With seven minutes left, though, Cook put in the Loggers' tenth goal, and stoic defense from Puget Sound saw out the 10-7 final score.
The loss settles the Bruins to 9-5 on the season, an even 3-3 in conference. George Fox hosts Whitman on Sunday, the season's penultimate game.
