Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. --- George Fox University's Lacrosse team had a very competitive and physical match Thursday night, as the undefeated Bruins met the undefeated Boxers in conference play.
In the opening minutes it was the Boxers of Pacific who struck first, netting two goals in the first five minutes of play. Bruin' Chrstine Doherty responded for the Bruins whipping one in the net after the Bruins won the draw control.
The Boxers tallied one more a minute later to regain their two goal lead, but the Bruins went on a three goal run led by Miranda Edwords to take their first lead of the game, 4-3. Pacific again netted a pair at the 17:14 mark and 16:33 mark to retake its lead, 5-4. Bruin' Jessica Adrian knotted the score 30 seconds later, but Pacific would use another pair of goals to keep the Bruins in the hunt, 7-5. Adrian again responded for the Bruins at the 8:15 mark to put the Bruins down by one, 7-6, but Boxer' April Lanz scored two to open up the margin, 9-6. Alexa Nakashimada wouldn't let the Bruins go into the half down by three, as she received a nice pass from Doherty and made a nifty move to squeeze one past the Boxer' goalie.
The Boxers went into intermission with a two goal lead, 9-7. Edwords led all players on the field with three goals.
Both teams opened up the second half with a goal apiece, but it was the Boxers who continued to keep the Bruins at arm's length. Paisley Hiefield helped the Boxers case, scoring a pair of her own to give the Boxers a 12-8 edge.
Edwords found the back of the net at the 21:36 mark, but Boxer' Amy Mayhugh responded with a goal of her own two minutes later. George Fox wouldn't go down without a fight as both Nakashimada and Mikaela Easterlin scored with 30 seconds of each other.
With the loss, the Bruins fall to 8-3 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. The Boxers remain undefeated in conference at 4-0 and improve to 9-1 on the season.
Edwords was the goal leader for the Bruins tallying four in the match.
The Bruins will stay on the road this weekend, as they go up to face cross town rival Linfield College on April 4 at 12:00 p.m.
