PARKLAND, Wash. --- After their 6-2 defeat in the first game of the Pacific Lutheran tournament Sunday, the Bruins fell again to the hosts, 5-1, in their second game. The Lutes jumped out to an early lead in the first, and the Bruins managed just a solitary run in the fifth.
Eli Skiles drove in the Bruins' only run and ended the day 2-3. Kadyn Nannini finished 1-3 with a run scored.
Michael Hirko and Tom Zarosinski were both effective in relief for George Fox.
The Lutes scored three off of Bruin starter Taylor Dunn in the first, stringing together two singles, two walks, and a hit batsman. The Bruins nearly evened the game in the third: a single by Thom Houston and walks to Skiles and Gabe Louthan loaded the bases with one out for the Bruins, but Kyle Esquerra hit into an inning-ending double play.
The Bruins finally broke their string of goose eggs in the fifth. Nannini singled, Hosuton sacrificed him to second, and Skiles shot a single to center, plating Nannini.
Collin Nilson's two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth put the game effectively away for the Lutes, and the 5-1 final stood.
