TACOMA, Wash. --- The George Fox women's tennis team continued their winning ways on Sunday, as the Bruins beat the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran, 7-2.
The Bruins got off to a strong start in doubles play, as they took both the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in 8-3 fashion. Sarah Tuemmler and Catrina Kwong had their hands full at the No. 1 spot, falling to Caroline Dreher and Samantha Lund, 8-3. Ellen Pearson and Taylor Barnes picked up the slack, taking down Megan Beyers and Karli Floyd, 8-3, and Ali Diehl and Andrea Motley reciprocated at the No. 3 spot with an 8-3 win.
George Fox ran away with it in singles play as they won at the No. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 spots. Tuemmler made quick work at the No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Kwong had a different match. After falling 5-7 in the first set, she tied it up at 6-6 in the second set, but her opponent was forced to retire, giving her the match. Barnes won at No. 3 in straight sets, and Pearson did the same at No. 4. Motley pulled off a huge win at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
Ali Diehl fought tooth and nail with Lilly Le, but in the end it resulted in a 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) loss.
The Bruins will play next on March 5 against College of Idaho hosted by Puget Sound.
