Box Score MCMINNVILLE, Ore. --- The George Fox baseball team continued its weekend success, Sunday afternoon, as the Bruins dazzled the Missionaries of Whitman College, 10-0.
Recap:
It marked the first shut-out of the year for the Bruins, as senior Sam Morland earned the win (1-0). Morland pitched five innings for the Bruins, facing 22 batters and giving up just three hits.
It didn't take long for the Bruins to find their groove, using a three-run inning in the first and a five-run inning in the third to establish their presence. It all started back in the first when AJ Valencia led-off with a single and then stole second. Gabe Louthan singled to left field on the next play, and Andrew Reichenbach followed suit with a double to left center to score the pair. After a ground out and a walk, Reichenbach and Brandon Wileman advanced the bases from a wild pitch. Woehler worked himself a nice at bat and drew a walk to load the bases up for Clay Mott. Mott flied out to right field for the sacrifice and brought home Woehler to complete the three runs scored for the Bruins.
The bats were swinging in the fifth, as Wileman hit a one-out double to right center to get the inning underway. Woehler hit a hard ball to the pitcher and would be called safe, and Mott reached on an error by the Whitman' third baseman, which scored Wileman in the process. Caylen Clardy then hit a two-out single to keep the inning alive, and the Bruins scored their next four runs with two outs on the board.
It was smooth sailing after that, as the Bruins went to their bullpen to close out the game. Jae Timlin and Mikah Takashige both came in to pitch an inning for the Bruins, and Nate Higa finished the game on the mound for the last two innings.
Top Performers:
The Bruins tallied 12 hits on the day with seven RBIs. Louthan was the only player to record three hits on the day. He also added two RBIs to his performance. Wileman, Woehler and Clardy all recorded two hits apiece.
