TACOMA, Wash. --- The George Fox women's tennis team played two matches on Saturday, as the Bruins beat College of Idaho, 6-3, and fell to NCAA Div. I Seattle University 9-0 in the nightcap.
Recap:
The Bruins jumped out to a strong start in doubles, taking the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Sarah Tuemmler and Kristen Mock defeated Allie Boyd and Megan Huffman at the No. 1, 8-4, and Motley Andrea and Ali Diehl won 8-2 at the No. 3 spot.
With a 2-1 lead going into singles, the Bruins didn't let up, as Tuemmler and Ellen Pearson won in straight sets at the top of the lineup. Taylor Barns took down Erin Huffman, 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot and Diehl won a tough match at No. 4 (7-5, 6-2). College of Idaho managed to take the last two spots at No. 5 and No. 6, but the Bruins had already clinched the match with a 6-3 victory.
The nightcap against the division I team gave the Bruins some excellent experience, but the Redhawks proved to be too tough.
"Everyone stepped up against COI," said head coach Rick Cruz. "We were able to mix up our lineup and it was nice to see our players respond. The match against Seattle was excellent experience for our team. It showed us where we can improve and what we need to work on moving forward."
