NEWBERG, Ore. --- Though they weren't quite as explosive, the Bruins completed their three-game sweep of Lewis & Clark on Sunday with a comfortable 6-2 win. Sam Morland took the win for the Bruins, going seven innings, and was helped by Caylen Clardy's two RBIs.
Recap:
The Bruins made sure Morland had a lead from the very beginning. In the first, Andrew Reichenbach singled, and Jake Thran doubled him in. Clardy's bases-loaded walk in the second made the lead 2-0.
In the third, Conner Sick's RBI single got the Pioneers on the board, but Morland settled down well to end the inning, and the Bruins expanded their lead in the fifth: Thran singled, went to second on a balk, and was singled in by Jacob Woehler.
Leading 3-1, the Bruins doubled their scoreline in the sixth. Clay Mott walked to lead off the inning went to second on a wild pitch, and scored bizarrely on Gabe Louthan's bunt, helped by some slipshod Pioneer defense. Clardy's sacrifice fly brought in another, and then Reichenbach blasted a solo homer to increase the Bruins' lead to 6-1.
The Pioneers scratched out a run in the eighth, but reliever Liam Kent did well to strand the bases loaded. Nate Higa finished the game on the mound for the Bruins and saw out the 6-2 victory.
Top Performers:
Clardy managed to drive in two runs without recording a base hit. Reichenbach was 2-5 with a homer and two runs scored. Woehler finished 3-4, as did Louthan.
What It Means:
The Bruins are 20-13 overall and 14-8 in conference with the sweep.
What Comes Next:
Next weekend, the Bruins visit Linfield to continue the rivalry with a three-game set.
