NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's tennis team closed out Sunday's match against Linfield inches away from victory, as the 'Cats held on to a 6-3 win.

The 'Cats came away with a 2-1 lead after doubles, but it was the No. 1 doubles match that could of turned things in favor for the Bruins. Sarah Tuemmler and Taylor Barnes played well against the Wildcats No. 1, falling just short at 9-7. In fact, the Bruins had the advantage with a 7-6 lead, but couldn't hold on as the top-team from Linfield rallied back.
The 'Cats earned two more victories at No. 1 and No. 2, but Ellen Pearson gave the Bruins a point after winning No. 3 singles in straight sets. The 'Cats secured the victory at No. 4 singles, earning the fifth point of the match. Andrea Motley won at No. 5 singles 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (9-7) to give the Bruins another point, and senior Ali Diehl showed just how tough she is at the No. 6 spot.
Diehl fell in the first set by a narrow margin of 6-4, but turned things around in the second set with a clean 6-0 victory. The super tiebreaker went back and forth, but the 'Cats were able to squeak by with the 1-0 (10-5).
What It Means:
The Bruins finish the season 12-9 overall and 7-5 in the Northwest Conference.
