TACOMA, Wash. --- Five goals from junior Christine Doherty drove the Bruins to a domineering 20-7 victory over hosts Puget Sound on Saturday.
Recap:
The Bruins blitzed the Loggers in the first half, outshooting them 22-10 and carrying a 13-4 lead into halftime. Lois Ray opened the scoring with a wicked free position shot two minutes in. After Miranda Edwords slipped Ashlie Hernandez a clever pass for the Bruins's second goal, Doherty tallied her first in the fourth minute, assisted by Jess Hanson.
The Bruins scored twice more before Puget Sound got on the board: Callie Holgate's goal brought the score to 5-1. Hernandez and Ray notched two more goals before Kerri Smith scored again for the home team: 7-2.
But Doherty scored twice in a single minute as the first half wound down, two powerful finishes from passes by Alexa Nakashimada and Hanson. Soon after, Nakashimada bagged a goal herself.
Doherty scored once more before halftime, with the score 13-4, and then scored again fifty seconds into the second half. The Bruins cooled their onslaught as the game progressed but still controlled the game, bossing the Loggers in midfield. Midway through the second half, Nakashimada slotted home a goal after a good solo run, and Lois Ray netted another free position shot to make the score 18-6.
Marlissa Wingett scored with 90 seconds left for the 20-7 final.
Top Performers:
Doherty scored five goals on just seven attempts. Hernandez, Nakashimada, Ray, and Hanson all bagged hat-tricks. Hanson and Ray also had three assists each.
What It Means:
The Bruins are 6-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 in conference.
