Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's lacrosse team traveled up to Pacific on Wednesday night, as the Bruins played for a chance to become the outright Northwest Conference Champions, but a tough Boxer squad stood in their way. The Boxers defeated the Bruins, 15-10.
Recap:
Jess Hanson got things going early for the Bruins with a goal at the 26:00 mark, but the Boxers quickly answered with two goals of their own. Alexa Nakashimada tied the game up at the 20:18 mark, but again, the Boxers responded this time with three goals to take a 5-2 advantage. Sydney Goo scored on a free possession attempt to bring the Bruins within two at the 9:56 mark, but the Boxers ended the first half with three straight goals.
The Boxes went into intermission with an 8-3 lead.
The second half became very physical as both teams combined for 22 fouls and four yellow cards. The Boxers opened up the scoring on a goal by Paisley Hiefield, but Miranda Edwords was timely with her response 37 seconds later, 9-4. Both teams traded goals for the remainder of the second half, but that wouldn't help the Bruins as the Boxers held their lead. Not going down without a fight, though, Edwords scored the final goal of the game at the 1:22 mark to leave the Bruins down by five, 15-10.
Top Performers:
Edwords scored a hat trick on the night on seven shots, while Nakashimada tallied two. Mikaela Easterlin played all 60 minutes in the net and recorded 13 saves on the night.
What It Means:
The fate of the NWC Champion will now have to wait till Saturday, as both teams will conclude their season. If both teams win on Saturday they will become NWC Co-Champions.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins will host Puget Sound on Saturday, April 23 at 12:00 p.m. for senior day. The Bruins will honor lone senior Alexa Nakashimada before the game.
