Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. --- The George Fox baseball team fell to the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran in game two of Friday's Northwest Conference Tournament, 13-6.
Recap:
It didn't take long for the Bruins to open up the scoring, as they bagged four runs on two hits to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Both AJ Valencia and Caylen Clardy worked walks in their at bats, and Kyle Esquerra grounded out to push both runners to second and third. Jake Thran helped score the first run on a sacrifice fly, and Kaydn Nannini blasted a ball over centerfield fence for a two-run homerun.
The momentum continued in the top of the second with another run, as Gabe Louthan did his work on the bases. Louthan singled up the middle and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Valencia. He then moved to third on a fly out by Clardy. Andrew Reichenbach drew a walk and the double steal was on as Louthan reached home safely.
The Lutes answered back in the bottom half of the second with four runs on five hits to put the Bruins up by just one, 5-4.
A scoreless third inning left both teams hungry for more, and the Bruins tacked another one on after a single by Esquerra scored Clardy, 6-4.
The two-run lead wouldn't hold for the Bruins, though, as Lute' Tyler Thompson hit a three-run homerun to centerfield in the fourth to give the Lutes a 7-6 edge.
Both teams again went scoreless in the fifth, but the Lutes opened up the scoring in the sixth with a pair of homeruns that pushed their lead to five, 11-6.
The seventh inning produced no runs, but another home run by the Lutes in the eighth sealed the deal with a 13-6 victory.
