Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. --- The bats were working for both teams in Saturday's elimination game in the Northwest Conference Tournament, but the Boxers edged the Bruins, 17-9.
Recap:
The Bruins followed suit from yesterday's game and were the first to score again, as a two-out walk by Andrew Reichenbach and a single to third base by Caylen Clardy gave Kyle Esquerra some runners to work with. Esquerra doubled to centerfield, scoring both Reichenbach and Clardy.
The Boxers were quick to respond in the top of the second inning after a sac-bunt advanced runners to second and third. A groundout on the next at bat moved the runner on third to home to score the lone run.
The Bruins got in a groove in the bottom of the third with five singles, the biggest coming from Clay Mott who recorded two RBIs.
Again, the Boxers responded in the next inning as they hung a crooked number on the scoreboard. The Boxers strung together four hits to score three runs with Kane Ulrich's double scoring two runs before the final two outs.
With the Bruins still up 5-4, Clardy added another run after a double to right center scored AJ Valencia, who led-off with a single up the middle.
The Boxers continued to use their bats in the top of the fifth as Walker Olis led-off with a homerun. The Boxers tied the game for the first time moments later when a sacrifice fly bagged another run.
Kadyn Nannini put the Bruins back on top in the bottom of the fifth with a lead-off homerun to right field.
The Boxers had an active sixth inning, scoring five runs on three hits and an error to take an 11-7 lead. The Bruins did well to get the first two batters out, but the Boxers rallied working a single and three straight walks. A pair of singles would score two more runs before the Bruins recorded the final out.
The Bruins slowly started to chip away at the newfound lead by the Boxers, bagging a run from another Esquerra single to leftfield that scored Reichenbach, 11-8.
The momentum continued to be on the Boxers side, as they scored again in the top of the seventh to increase their lead to four, 12-8. After the RBI single, the Boxers loaded the bases and scored two more runs after the Bruins tried to roll a double play that resulted in a throwing error, 14-8.
George Fox refused to show any quit, platting a run on a double down the leftfield line by Connor Newell, 14-9.
Liam Kent came in to replace Sam Morland for the top of the eighth and put down the side with a pair of groundouts and a strikeout. It marked the first time either team got rid of the side on the day.
Nate Higa replaced Kent in the final inning, and the Boxers were able to score three more runs with two coming from Walker Olis who hit his second home run on the day.
