TACOMA, Wash. --- The Bruins had a chance to grab a series win against Puget Sound going into Sunday's rubber game, but despite a solid, if short, start from Sam Morland, the Bruins lost 3-0 to the Loggers.
Recap:
Morland was effective over his four-and-two-thirds innings of work, scattering six hits and holding the Loggers to a single run. But the Bruins couldn't get much going offensively, stymied by Loggers starter Merle Rowan-Kennedy and reliever Anthony Brady.
Puget Sound scratched out their one run against Morland in the third: Chris Zerio's sacrifice fly brought in Cal Muramaru. Down 1-0, the Bruins finally woke up in the fourth. AJ Valencia led off with a walk, and Caylen Clardy singled to put two runners on. Andrew Reichenbach hit behind the runners to put them on second and third with one out, but the Bruins couldn't manage to score.
The Bruins stood an even better chance in the fifth, putting two runners in scoring position with no outs, after Kyle Esquerra doubled and Connor Newell dropped down a bunt single. But, again, the Bruins were retired with no runs.
The Loggers added single runs in the sixth and eighth to put the game, and the series, away, 3-0.
Top Performers:
Newell and Clardy both finished 2-4. Reichenbach walked twice and had a smart groundout in the fourth. Esquerra had the Bruins's only extra-base hit.
What It Means:
With the series loss, the Bruins sit at 17-13 overall and 10-8 in conference play.
What Comes Next:
Next weekend, the Bruins return home for a three-game series with Lewis & Clark.
