NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's lacrosse team continued its winning ways Saturday, as the Bruins opened up Northwest Conference play with a 13-7 win over the Whitman Blues.

Recap:
The Bruins were quick to score as Lois Ray and Miranda Edwords both tallied a goal in the first 10 minutes of action. Whitman hung tough with the Bruins, scoring its first goal off a free position shot. The Blues tied the game up seven minutes later with 11:02 on the scoreboard off another free position shot. The game was tightly contested for the next five minutes as each team tried to gain traction on the offensive side of the ball. The Bruins settled down in the final 10 minutes of the first half, netting three goals in a three minute span. Madison Strickland found the back of the net at 6:19, Jennifer Burke scored at 5:06 and Edwords recorded her second goal of the game at 3:05.

Whitman broke free in the final minute to cut the Bruins' lead to two, 5-3.

The second half was intense for both sides, as Whitman kept the Bruins on their toes trading goals for 15 minutes. With the score standing at 7-6 and 15 minutes left in the game, the Bruins dug down deep and went on a three goal run to build some cushion. Strickland came up big for the Bruins with two quick goals to increase the lead to 9-6. Whitman managed to find the net one more time, but the Bruins ended the game with three more goals to secure the 13-7 lead.

Top Performers:
For the second straight game, Edwords led the team with four goals on seven shots – all seven were on frame. Strickland recorded her first hat trick of her young career, and Lois Ray and Burke both scored two goals apiece. Mikaela Easterlin was stellar between the sticks for the Bruins, recording 12 saves in her 60 minutes of play.

What It Means:
The Bruins are now 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the NWC.

The Bruins will host Colorado College Sunday, March 12, at 12p.m.
