TACOMA, Wash. --- The George Fox baseball team finished its road trip in Washington with the final two games of their series against the Lutes, losing the first and winning the second, 11-4 and 2-1 respectively. The fourth game was counted as a nonconference game.
Recap:
Game One:
It was the Lutes who struck first in game one, jumping out to an early 10-0 lead after a huge first inning.
The Bruins struck back in the top of the sixth with a two run inning to try to narrow the deficit. Dillon Blankenship hit a single up the middle followed by a double down the right field line by AJ Valencia. A sac fly from Matt Voelzke earned the RBI, sending home Blankenship. Valencia stole third and Brandon Wileman sent him the rest of the way with a sac fly RBI.
The Bruins kept it coming in the top of the seventh, further narrowing the Lutes' lead with another two-run inning. Andrew Reichenbach hit a home run to right field for the two RBI, sending home Connor Newell.
Game Two:
The Bruins came out looking for revenge in game two with a run in the first inning. Jalen Drath got it going with a double to right field in the very first at-bat. A single to third base by Derek Johnson sent home Drath for the RBI.
Johnson kept it going in the top of the fourth with a beautiful home run to left field, giving the Bruins the 2-0 advantage
The Lutes scored in the bottom of the fourth but were unable to even the game as the Bruins took game two.
Top Performers:
Game One:
Reichenbach led the offense with a two RBI homer for the Bruins. Voelzke and Wileman chipped in an RBI apiece to complete the George Fox scoring effort.
Game Two:
Johnson led the team in game two, going two for three at the plate and earning both of the Bruins' RBIs. Isaac Olson earned the win, going 5.1 innings and allowing two hits.
What It Means:
The Bruins are now 14-17 on the season and 9-12 in the NWC. The Bruins are two games back from fourth place in the NWC.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins host Puget Sound Friday in a conference double header; game one is set for 12:00pm and game two is set for 2:00pm. Senior day is set for Saturday, April 15.
