NEWBERG, Ore. --- Alex Jondal struck out 10 hitters and Kyler Brudwick drove in two runs as the George Fox baseball team won its fifth straight game in a 4-1 victory over Lewis and Clark College on Saturday.
Recap:
The Pioneers opened the game with a double off of Jondal, but the senior settled in and made quick work of the next three batters.
Brudwick's two-RBI single came in the bottom of the first inning after Turner Glenn singled to right and Sam Swenson doubled down the left field line.
Leading 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Houston Thom singled with two outs and moved to third via a Derek Johnson double. Despite having two runners in scoring position, the Bruins came up empty and carried the lead into the fifth.
The lone run given up by Jondal came in the top of the fifth inning. After a leadoff walk followed by a single, the Pioneers found themselves with runners on first and third with no one out. A grounder to Voelzke at shortstop was enough to get the runner from third across home, but Jondal was able to work out of the jam.
The Bruins held a 2-1 lead after five and added two more in the sixth. Swenson and Brudwick reached base to begin the inning and eventually scored after back to back sacrifices by Voelzke and Thom to give the Bruins a 4-1 advantage.
Zach Stouder entered in relief, going three strong while only giving up two hits. His 1-2-3 ninth inning earned him his first save of the season and gave Jondal his first win.
Top Performers:
Jondal and Stouder combined to strike out 13 Lewis and Clark hitters. Brudwick and Glenn each turned in two hits performances and the defense of the Bruins held strong, committing no errors.
