SPOKANE --- It wasn't the type of the day the No. 18 George Fox baseball team was used to Saturday, as the Bruins dropped the first two games of the Northwest Conference series to the Whitworth Pirates.

Recap:

Game One:

In the opening game of the series, the Pirates were the first to get on board after recording one run off a sac-fly in the bottom of the second.

The Bruins were quick to answer in the top of the third, as Jerred Seamons brought home Blankenship on a sac-fly.

With the score tied a 1-1, the Pirates hung four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead. The Bruins scored one in the top of sixth to cut into the deficit off a Kyle Esquerra RBi, but the Pirates found success in the bottom half of the inning.

The Pirates exploded in the bottom of the sixth, recording five runs on four hits with the biggest coming off a 3-run home run.

George Fox scored one more in the seventh but it wasn't enough to come back against the Pirates, who took game one, 10-3.

Game Two:

The Pirates kept their momentum alive after the game one win, hanging four runs in the bottom of the first.

George Fox had a tough time at the plate, as the Bruins recorded three hits in the game.

Whitworth came away with a 7-0 win in the second game to secure the series win over the Bruins.

Top Performers:

Game One:

Turner Glenn was the only Bruin to have a multi-hit day, going 2-2 at the plate with one run scored.

Game Two:

AJ Valencia recorded two of the Bruins' three hits on the day, going 2-3 at the plate.

What It Means:

The Bruins drop to 14-5 on the season and 8-3 in the NWC.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins will look to bounce back Sunday, March 11, with the rubber match starting at 12 pm.
