BEAVERTON --- The George Fox women's tennis team fell in a close nonconference match Saturday to Austin College, 5-4.

Recap:

The Bruins were quick to set the tone, as they took early leads in all three doubles. After battling tough at the No. 1 spot, Catrina Kwong and Kristen Mock fell, 8-3, to give the Kangaroos their first point.

In No. 3 doubles, Laney Search and Sophia Lawrence teamed up to take on Anna Sergiovanni and Georgia Moore. Search and Lawrence was able to even up the score with an 8-6 win and give the Bruins some momentum. Jillian Studer and Lydia Pia found their own groove at the No. 2 spot, going back and forth with Chandler Morris and Grace Ortiz. Studer and Pia gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead after doubles with a 9-7 victory.

Singles play wasn't too kind to the Bruins, as the 'Roos retook the lead with wins at the No. 3 spot, the No. 2 spot and the No. 4 spot of singles play. Kwong stopped the momentum with a win at the No. 1 spot in heroic fashion. Kwong won her three-set match over Melody Duong, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Danielle Brown captured the Bruins fourth point and kept them in the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Brenna McCown. The Kangaroos were able to steal the victory away from that the No. 5 spot in a thrilling tiebreaker.

What It Means:

The Bruins are now 3-6 on the season.

The Bruins are back in Northwest Conference action Sunday, March 18 with a match against Lewis & Clark. Play starts at 11 am.
