Box Score CLAREMONT --- The George Fox women's lacrosse team dropped its first game of the season Saturday afternoon, as the Bruins lost a 16-15 heartbreaker to Pomona-Pitzer.
Recap:
The Bruins wasted no time finding the back of the net, as Lois Ray scored in the first 30 seconds of the game. Jennifer Burke put the Bruins up 2-0 with a goal of her own a couple minutes later. After the Sagehens found their first goal of the game, the offensive battle went back and forth. Burke scored her second goal of the game to put the Bruins up two, 3-1, but the Sagehens answered with back-to-back goals to tie the game up with 19 minutes left in the half.
Burke found her rhythm moments later, scoring her third and fourth goals of the game to put the Bruins back on top. Just like before, the Sagehens went on the attack and scored another pair of goals to tie the game up at 5-5.
The Bruins put together a quick strike to end the half, as Jess Hanson scored with just under 30 seconds left to give the Bruins a 6-5 edge. Ray pulled off one of the sneakiest goals of the half, finding the back of the net just before the horn sounded to give the Bruins a 7-5 lead.
The high scoring affair didn't have any stop to it in the second half, as both teams came out trading goals for the first 15 minutes. The Sagehens took their first lead of the game at the 18:36 mark, but it didn't last long as Meredith Teel squared the game up at 10-10.
The home team found a groove down the stretch with another pair of goals to take their largest lead just under the 10-minute mark of 14-12. Teel and Hanson helped the Bruins climb back into the game, and it was Teel who tied the game up with four minutes left at 15-15. The Sagehens clinched the win with a minute left after the game-winner sneaked by the Bruins' goalkeeper.
